Casting Study: Ball Pens

This range of pens – the “Golf” series – is characterized by clean lines and an antique appearance produced by symbols in fine relief on the surface. The thin castings – wall thickness of 0.7 mm – have enabled the total weight to be kept low, while the technology of the process enables the fine detailing of the outer surfaces to be produced in the die. A detailed study of the shape and weight distribution has produced a product that is well balanced and convenient to use. The weight of the zinc alloy casting is 46g, and that of the complete pen is 55g. The overall impression of value of the pen is enhanced by copper or antiqued brass plating – two of the many fine finishes which can readily be applied to zinc alloy castings.
